The 2020 primary election is unlike any election in modern history. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, West Virginia officials delayed the state's May 12 primary and allowed all registered voters to request an absentee mail-in ballot. Per usual, voters also had the opportunity to vote early in person. If you’re heading to the polls to vote, you may have some questions. WVPB interim news director Glynis Board and reporter Brittany Patterson have some answers.
Stories of snake handlers, moonshining and the isolated mountains of West Virginia have been around for years, but “Shiners,” a new novel by author Amy Jo Burns, looks at those from the perspective of a 15-year-old girl caught in the middle. Burns spoke with Inside Appalachia associate producer Eric Douglas. Here is part of their conversation.
