West Virginia Morning
West Virginia Public Broadcasting

In 2019, natural gas production in West Virginia was up. But state severance tax collections were down — affected by low natural gas prices, and the slowdown of major natural gas pipeline projects. For our public affairs show, The Legislature Today, reporter Brittany Patterson visited with some West Virginia University students majoring in petroleum and natural gas engineering to learn how they see the industry’s future.

With declining populations and stagnant incomes, many rural communities across the Ohio Valley are struggling to retain their grocery stores. Reporter Sydney Boles visits Inez, Kentucky on the last day its grocery store was in business, leaving the community asking, what’s next?
