Ella Jennings, a native of the region, produced a podcast series called What Happened to Weirton. Her second episode, titled “He Could See Everything Folding”, looks at some of the social and emotional consequences that come with losing a major industry.
Ella spoke with Northern Panhandle resident Mary Tice about her husband and former mill worker Larry Tice. We pick up in this segment with Mary remembering the months following Weirton Steel’s bankruptcy filing.
Also on today’s show, the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley is working to address youth retention in West Virginia by exposing current college students to opportunities that exist in the region. Corey Knollinger has more.
