How Some Transgender Parents Approach Father’s Day

West Virginia Morning
West Virginia Public Broadcasting

On this West Virginia Morning, we explore how some transgender families celebrate Father’s Day, we hear a story from this week’s Inside Appalachia podcast featuring craft breweries, and we listen to this week’s Mountain Stage Song of the Week.

Craft beer is a growing industry in the country, with more than 7,000 commercial breweries. Just in West Virginia, there are almost 30 – which is up from the five that were open in 2011, according to the Brewers Association.

And, all these craft breweries started with a home brewer. Home brewing clubs exist all across Appalachia, and there are even competitions.

This week’s episode of Inside Appalachia takes a deep dive into the craft beer and craft spirits industry. Here’s one of the stories featured in the episode, brought to us by Caitlin Tan.

When a person transitions from male to female and is a parent, how is Father’s Day celebrated? WEKU’s Cheri Lawson talked with three transgender women who are also parents.

This week’s Mountain Stage Song of the Week comes from acclaimed Nashville singer and songwriter Kim Richey and San Francisco's Chuck Prophet. Prophet was a guest on Mountain Stage and appears on Richey's new album "Edgeland.” We listen to their duet, “Whistle On Occasion.”
