West Virginia Morning
West Virginia Public Broadcasting

On this West Virginia Morning, we hear from a woman who is reaching out to grandparents who are raising their grandkids.

This month, Fairmont Regional Hospital announced it was closing its doors. It's the fourth Appalachian hospital to do so in the past six months. Kara Lofton spoke with West Virginia Hospital Association President Joe Letnauchyn about why so many rural hospitals are struggling and what he sees as possible solutions.

In the next episode of our show Us & Them, which looks at the things that divide us, we explore scenarios all too familiar throughout West Virginia today – grandparents raising grandchildren. In this excerpt, host Trey Kay talks to Bonnie Dunn – head of the West Virginia State University’s Healthy Grandfamilies program. We also hear from a grandmother raising her three granddaughters while her own daughter struggles with addiction.

This episode of Us & Them is presented with support from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and the West Virginia Humanities Council.
