Reporters Recap a Week of Twists and Turns at the W.Va. Legislature

This week, we've seen a teacher and school workers strike, the death of a massive controversial education bill, and a campus-carry gun bill zoom through the House of Delegates. We bring you up-to-date on all these issues and more.

There was a public hearing Friday morning on what's been called the “clean” salary bill – pay raises for teachers, school workers, and state troopers. The bill easily passed late in the afternoon in the House.

Host Suzanne Higgins is joined by statehouse reporters Brad McElhinny of WV MetroNews and Jake Zuckerman of the Charleston Gazette-Mail.

Here are highlights from the interview:

  • Status of HB 2730 – Gov. Jim Justice’s “clean” pay raise bill for teachers, police, and school service personnel
  • The death of SB 451 – comprehensive education reform
  • Two-day teachers strike
  • Status of HB 2519 – Campus Self Defense Act
  • Crossover Day is next week
