On this West Virginia Morning, new data on drug use among teenagers show a rare bright spot amid the opioid crisis. Use of opioids appears to have dropped last year among high schoolers in the region.
School officials in the Ohio Valley want to continue that trend with more school-based programs designed to help prevent substance use disorders. But as Aaron Payne reports, those programs use a new approach as officials learn from past mistakes.
Also on today’s show, in Kentucky, the Blue Grass Army Depot houses military chemical weapons. It was recently, once again, the site of a mock disaster. Each September, for years, a chemical weapon exercise has tested those in public safety, health care, and education plus the response of the Army installation. Stu Johnson with WEKU watched the drill unfold from two sites and reports that the 10-county emergency exercise carried additional significance this year.
