On this West Virginia Morning, hundreds of miners have been laid off, effective Thursday, Oct. 18, following a mine closure in Wyoming County. As Molly Born reports, the news is a blow to the region -- and some miners are now considering getting out of the industry altogether.
Also on today's show, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, the U.N. body that provides objective, scientific reports on climate change issued a grave warning last week: Humans are running out of time if we are to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. While the report took a global view, here in the Mountain State, scientists can already see the impacts of climate change. Brittany Patterson sat down with one climate scientist to learn more.
And much of the wastewater from West Virginia’s gas industry is trucked across the border to Ohio -- contributing to the more than one billion gallons of fracking wastewater injected into deep wells there just last year. Residents in at least one Ohio County say they've had enough. The Allegheny Front's Julie Grant reports.
