Challenge Issued
Do you work with students in grades 3 to 5?  Do you like to integrate technology into your lessons?  Step up to the WVPB STEAM power WV Challenge and win a chance to earn cash to purchase technology for your classroom.

It’s simple:  Integrate Art into your STEM lessons. Complete 4 lessons , 1 in each of the STEM fields and submit a couple of pictures of the finished projects.  The lessons are designed to be completed in one class period.  They are perfect for those after test afternoons or an afterschool activity.

The Challenge is open to all West Virginia teachers and caregivers of students in grades 3-5.  All entries must be submitted by May 6 to be eligible for prizes.   A$500 first place prize and a $200 second place prize will be awarded at each grade level 3, 4 and 5 grades.  Prizewinners will be randomly selected among classroom or programs submitting a completed entry.

This Challenge is supported by a grant through the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.

There is still time to put that story down and submit it to West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Annual Writers Contest.  Authors Kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible to submit an entry.  Entry Details

Prizes are awarded at all grade levels first through third place at each grade level.  Winning entries will be published on our web site.

  Do You Have a Creative Chef in Your House?

Do you have a child between the ages of 8-12? First Lady Michelle Obama invites you to enter your child’s healthy MyPlate inspired recipe between February 22 and April 4, 2016.

The winning chefs will serve as healthy food ambassadors for their state or territory and will be flown to Washington D.C. with a parent or guardian to attend the  Kids’ “State Dinner.”

In celebration of the MyPlate, MyState initiative, we’re encouraging entries to include local ingredients grown in your state, territory, or community.Submissions must include information about how and why the recipe was created. The recipe also should be: -Healthy  -Creative  -Affordable   -Delicious  -Original

A parent or legal guardian is required to fill out the  entry form  on his or her child's behalf.
